Between Wyomings... a review

Ok, so this one took me a little longer to get through since I have been pretty bust lately, but... here are my impressions:

Between Wyomings - my God and an i-Pod on the open road was a real page turner for me. I just wish I would have had longer sittings between sessions to read it a little more carefully. Regardless, this book was entertaining from the get-go.

The way the book started, instantly caught my attention because my wife and I had just finished a journey of our own earlier this summer with our kids. Although, much different from what is described in the book, we traveled to seven states in the month of June and had a blast with our kids. Actually, this is where I first picked up this book and started to get into it... Since we were on vacation, I had a little more time to read that normal. This is something I really enjoyed!

Anyways, Ken Mansfield has some pretty cool stories early on in the book and honestly started to lose my attention about half way, as his ramblings were getting a little too far out for my senses. Although, just in time, some of the stories started to come full circle and won my attention once again.

If you're someone who enjoys tales of sex, drugs and the rock and roll lifestyle from time times of the SuperBeetle - with a great message at the end, this book will be one you won't want to put down.

Hilarity ensues at the Tkacik house.

I received our copy of Jack Hannah’s “Jungle Jack’s The Wackiest, Wildest, and Weirdest Animals of the World” last week and wasn’t surprised that my daughter loved it.

There are tons of interesting facts outlined about each animal included in the book, and each page includes lots of vivid pictures of the animal being discussed. There are at least three or four pictures of each animal on each page that shows the animal in different poses and gives the reader a good idea of what they look like in the wild. Upon opening the book, my daughter immediately started to laugh hysterically at the descriptions of the animals, and wanted to know more about them.

One feature the book lacks that I would like to see is a pronunciation guide for some of the animal’s names. Some of them are difficult to pronounce, and although a quick Google search yielded the answers to our pronunciation queries, it would have been nice to have that included from the get-go. Not everyone has a nerdy dad sitting nearby with access to a laptop.

All in all, I would recommend this book to anyone who has an inquisitive little one bounding around the house who likes and is interested in learning more about animals they may not be lucky enough to see in their very own backyard.

Ok, so yeah...

Likely, the next ramblings you read here will be a Jack Hannah book review -  Yes, the goofy animal guy. The book is entitled: "Jungle Jack's The Wackiest, Wildest, and Weirdest Animals in the World."

Yes, I'm 28.

Eliana, my daughter will be helping, as it's picture book-esque qualities would point in her general direction - not so much mine. Although my wife may disagree as to whom this book is more geared toward.

Enthrallment to commence in about a week...

The Noticer: A Review

Well, I can say that I haven’t read too many Christian themed books that have fictional elements, but the Noticer really brought some good points to light.

Not too long ago, I found myself trapped in a “the glass is half empty” mindset, but after reading this book, I have noticed that lately I have been thinking about life much more like Jones. That is, with a different perspective, and to be happy with the things you have – rather than focusing on the things you are lacking. Although this idea seems like a simplistic one to overcome, the worldly things we encounter every day as Christians makes it easy to forget about how great our lives really are. Like it’s stated in the book, life is all about perspective.

For those who say this book was a real page turner, I agree. I read it in two sittings over a pot of coffee. Although I think the book was maybe 50 pages too long (the point was made very early on in the book), it has a nice flow to it which enables you to get sucked into it rather easily. I would recommend it to someone who has a few hours to kill on a plane, or car ride as it is an easy book to understand with distractions around.

Welcome!

So, for whatever reason, you're looking at my blog. I have no idea how you got here. Maybe you don't even know. Maybe you thought this blog would be about hash browns?

People blog for a lot of reasons. I for one have never been to up on the idea of letting everyone know what's going on in my brain at all times, but as a recovering journalist I thought it might be somewhat therapeutic to start to put my words onto e-paper once again.

I cannot guarantee that anything I write here will be insightful, thought provoking, or inspiring in any way shape or form. Leave now if you're looking to me to give you all the answers - or any of them for that matter.

So, now all of that's out in the open, lets go!
